I have had a lifelong fascination for using my hands to interconnect elements – parts of plants, yarns, beads, scraps of fabric. Each small stitch, or row, or bead is much like every other, but they combine in endless variety. Working with my hands also connects me to family, friends and mentors: to those who have taught me and to those I teach.

Gathering or creating many of the materials I use is essential to my creative process. In this way I am connected to the natural world around me. My background as an anthropologist and my respect for artisans of other times and other cultures, whose work I study, are referenced in my own art.
